My First Crocheted Socks

Crocheted Socks

My First Crocheted Socks

So I’ve watched Jes knit these great looking socks, and I’ve wondered whether or not I can crochet something like that.  This pattern is from CGOA, and took me about two days to complete.  Ahh, now I understand  the fascination with knitted socks. These are both stylish and cozy, but crochet just does not have the same stretch as knitted fabric.  These are  done mainly with an extended single crochet.

Has anyone out there got a great pattern for crocheted socks that have a bit more “give”.  I prefer a snugger ankle, but had to make these very generous in size to go over my heel.  My vision is for something crocheted on a bias — where there is much more stretch in crochet than vertical or horizontal.  Look forward to any suggestions!

Double Closure Crocheted Necklace

Like my new model?  Bear’s neck is the same size as mine — so he makes a perfect model!

This choker is an experiment in a double closure for my jewelry.  I grabbed a couple of buttons I had laying around, crocheted them together like a french cufflink, and voila!   Closure could be worn front or back — or a longer closure used in the back to make the necklace drape more.

I need to look through my jewelry and see if I have a drop that would hang well between the buttons,,,

Even More Bracelets

Red bead braceletI am really pleased with the bracelet pattern from Brenda K. B. Anderson.  Although she shows it in heavier yarns in the Interweave pattern, I’ve been experimenting with the pattern with threads.  Today’s effort is with a medium weight thread and a slightly larger bead to thread ratio.  The result is a light bracelet with a great feel!  Used the same toggle button to close as on Sara’s bracelet from yesterday.

Sara’s Bracelet

Sara's BraceletHubby David brought me a lovely stash of threads that he found at an estate sale.  A trip to the bead store with Jes (my daughter) and a lesson in bead selection, and we came home with a selection of beads to try with the thread.  My first effort with the threads came out a bit small — but perfect for my niece!

I’m working on my documentation skills (translate that to mean I’m not sure EXACTLY which thread I used for this), but I promise I’ll get better as I go along.

I really liked the look of the crystal toggles that Brenda used in the pattern, so a quick trip to JoAnn’s gave me this button to use for the closure:

Crocheted Bracelet

手镯 Bracelet ( literally “hand jewelry”  I think!)

Trying to refresh my needlework skills and found the instructions for this bracelet in my latest Interweave Crochet magazine.  My artist daughter helped me pick out the thread to match some stone beads I had kept from a necklace that broke.  I was pretty pleased with the outcome; now if I can only get the sweater that I’m working on to come out so well!
